Each x Other, Paris
Each x Other is a French brand that pays homage to the work of contemporary artists by selecting a number of unisex pieces that serve as blank canvas for a work of art to be reproduced on. When the brand approached me about a collaborative collection inspired by my work, l suggested using an existing 3D animation of mine entitled "Unexpected Hero". As a result, the 3D animation is projected onto jeans, jackets and shirts as extracted silver screened motifs. Details from my animation also inspired the creation of embroideries and prints for leather jackets.
The collection is a result of mutual inspiration and is entitled Hollowness for two reasons. Illusion is the first one, as the clothing is a result of projections of virtual images onto fabric. Secondly, the collection reflects the hollowness of our time: the fast forward social media era that is erasing the realness and tangible particles of our lives such as the crisis of printed media and the convergence of all in one.
法国品牌Each x Other为向当代艺术家们致敬,将一系列男女皆宜的服装作为原始的空白画布,把艺术家们的艺术作品“画”在服装上进行重新演绎。当品牌找到我,询问是否可以提供一个印花给他们来作为灵感,为我特别制作一个服饰系列时,我建议使用自己现有的3D动画作品“Unexpected Hero”(意想不到的英雄),并把3D动画像投在银幕上的图案一样投放在牛仔裤、外套和衬衫上。我的动画作品中的细节也成为了该系列中的皮衣上的刺绣及凸花。艺术家与品牌创意人员的“相互启发(Mutual Inspiration)”促成了整个系列的完成。
该系列取名为“空”是基于两个原因:首先是因为每一件服饰是虚拟图案投射在服装材质上而制作出来的。其次则是因为该系列反映了我们的时代,社会媒体迅速发展的纪元正慢慢磨灭着我们生活的真实面和有形元素,比如平面媒体的危机,等各种相似的融合现象。一同感受“Hollowness空”,以我的动画作品为灵感的服饰系列。

After a successful first collaborative collection, a second season was launched with Each x Other Paris. Within a few years time, Each x Other has expanded globally across over 300 department stores and luxury boutiques carrying the brand. For the second season spring summer 2014, the Each x Other creative team took inspiration from my video featuring Charlotte Gainsbourg entitled “My Heart Laid Bare”. The brand identified my color as Electric Blue or called Bleu de Chine.
继首次合作系列成功后,Each x Other巴黎推出了第二季作品。在短短几年内,Each x Other品牌已经在全球扩张中拥有超过300家百货商场和奢侈品牌精品店。在2014年春夏第二季作品中,Each x Other创作团队获得灵感来自于我的视频“My Heart Laid Bare”由Charlotte Gainsbourg主演。品牌将我的色彩命名为电子蓝或称作中国蓝。
Hollowness defines the present tense of our lives, right now, right at this moment. The impact of social media has washedthe old and has brought new energies and new vanities into our lives. Social media has also brought a new sort of virtualdemocracy; a utopian democracy where all becomes the same: everything, everybody, every habit becomes alike, every news becomes newsworthy on a personal level until the followers level.
“Hollowness空”定义了我们生活的现在时,就是现在,就是这一刻。社会媒体的影响已经洗刷了旧事物,给我们的生活带来了新能量,新的空无。社会媒体还带来了虚构的民主,一个乌托邦式的民主,即仿佛所有一切都成了同一个样子:每件事,每个人,每一个习惯都变得很像,每一个新闻的价值也从个人层面衍射到了其关注者们的层面上。
Hollowness also emphasizes the hollowness of our feelings and emotions in the age of social media. Technology has taken over most machines. Today everything tends to merge into one. Special effects used in the film are inspired by what one can obtain on smartphone apps, in order to portray “today”.
“Hollowness空”同时还强调了在社会媒体时代,我们情感和感情的空无。科技已经代替了大多数的机器。现在所有的事物都有融合成一体的趋势。这次周依的新短片“Hollowness空”中的特效就是以智慧型手机应用中可以看到的效果为灵感,从而更能够代表“现在”。
